Touch technology

Touch technologytechnology has widened its scope and has increased the list of benefits for its users. You will find technology in every sphere of life where ever you go. The recent and the most innovative advancement in technology is the adoption of touch screen methods in mobile phones, laptops, etc.

So we will start to recognize the wide world of Touch Screen Technology

Who is invented Touch Screen Technology

According to Elo Touch systems' online history of the touch screen, Dr. Sam Hurst invented the first touch screen to speed his data management tasks in the early 1970s

The Invention of Touch Screen Technology

Touch screens allow users to input data to a computer or other electronic device by direct contact with the display screen. Using a stylus or fingertip, users can press on-screen buttons, type on a virtual keyboard or even write and draw freehand. Touch screens prove useful in different applications, prompting manufacturers to create compact and easy-to-use handheld devices.

Where:

A touch screen is a unique type of visual display device that allows the user to physically interface with the computer or other electronic device by touching the screen.

What Is the Importance of Touch Screen Technology?

Replacing the Mouse

The process of using a touch screen monitor allows for the absence of the traditional computer mouse.

Absence of the KeyboardHaving accessibility and functionality by tapping directly on the screen, the touch screen also allows for the absence of a keyboard.

Reality Based Interaction

Having a more direct and natural interaction with electronic devices is an appeal of this technology. Lacking the multiple devices needed to communicate with traditional computers, touch screen technology creates a simpler and more intuitive interaction.

Advantages & Disadvantages of Touch Screen Technology
Advantages is from:

Simplicity

Touch screen technology eliminates the need for a separate keyboard or mouse, which can shrink the overall size (and weight) of devices like computers and electronic organizers.

Adaptability

Another of the advantages to using touch screen technology is its adaptability, both in terms of hardware and software.

Responsiveness

One of the major disadvantages is that a touch screen doesn't respond to touch as well as a traditional keyboard responds to keystrokes. Although efforts to improve touch screen keyboarding continue, TechWorld indicates that the ability of touch screens to replace mechanical keyboards remains in doubt.

DISADVANTAGES
-The screen has to be big enough to be able to touch the buttons without missing

-Having a big bright screen and needing massive computing power to run this means a very low battery life

-In direct sunlight it is much less efficient and most of the time very difficult to read the screen

-If a touch screen devise were to crash the whole screen would be unresponsive, and because of the lack of buttons revering it would be very difficult

-The screens will get very dirty

-You have to be within arm's reach of the device

-They usually cost more than ordinary devices.

Touch screens bring new requirements for web design;

Web designer need to take these new class of devices into account when designing new websites

 Things they need to consider:

· Easy to hit buttons for navigation and actions

· Leave enough space around links to avoid miss clicks using a finger

Employ other user interface paradigms in line with touch screen use:
· Dragging feels more natural with fingers than with the mouse

· Gestures for navigation or manipulation of items

Touch technology has gone so high these days that in coming years the condition will be something like having everything on a touch..

How Does Touch-Screen Technology Work?

Touch-screen technology works by sensing the touch and motion of either your fingers or a stylus.
The three different types of touch-screen technology -- resistive, capacitive and infrared -- all perform the same function but do so in different ways. Therefore, they are made from different materials, each require different tools and have different levels of cost and durability.

Resistive

Resistive-technology screens consist of a layer of flexible material over a layer of glass. Small dots between the film and the glass separate multiple layers of material that are carrying currents. When you touch the screen, the current flow is changed, and the device uses this to work out where your finger has touched the screen. This type of technology is the cheapest of the three. Samsung Instinct, HTC Touch Diamond and LG Dare cell phones contain this type of technology.

 Capacitive

Capacitive screens emit a current from the corners of the screen. They work in the same was as resistive screens in that when you touch the screen, you interrupt the current's flow and the device uses this to calculate the position of your finger, such as the iPhone and the iPad.

Infrared

Infrared-touch screens use either heat-sensing or optical technology. Both types of screen are made from glass, but you need to touch heat-sensing screens with a warm object, such as a bare finger, for this to register. Infrared touch screens are durable; however, they are the most expensive type of touch-screen technology to produce. The Samsung U600 cellphone employs this technology.

What is a Touch Screen Used For?

Self-Service Check Outs

Many supermarkets use touch screens to save time for both customers and cashiers. Customers can weigh produce, look up codes, and choose methods of payment from touch screen displays.

ATM Machines

Most ATM machines use touch screen technology. It allows users to input their information without having to press buttons, which makes ATM use much easier.

PDAs

PDAs are one of the first popular uses of touch screen technology.

iPhone

The Apple iPhone uses its touch screen display to provide users with an easy way to navigate. Users can dial, text, listen to music and navigate the Web using the touch screen.

Nintendo DS

The Nintendo DS handheld video game system has two display screens, with the lower used for touch screen capabilities.

Finally the subject say that from my point of view that it is impossible to find a house or a person does not have this kind of technology because human nature cannot dispense comfort in any area of life ..... I personally excited about the technology coming years.
